,!!!Year 2235
The <b>Kajinna Galaxy</b> (also known coloquially to some as the Milky Way Galaxy) has flourished with life as multiple space-faring species have made roost as a larger community. Among them, Humans, the Aekor, and Lhuxen worked together as three of the predominant species occupying the galaxy to establish the governance entity: <b>Kajinna Alliance Taskforce (KAT)</b>.
As a unified force, KAT maintains order in the galaxy and supports the local governments of each species as well as the intergalactic political spectrum. As an offshoot of the Taskforce, the <b>Kajina Tribunal</b> serves as an elected body of representatives from a majority of active species within Kajinna who serve to mediate conflict, trade, and policy.
But Kajinna is not devoid of challenges. With the growing populations and ever-expanding network of planets and stations, there is no limit to the pockets of dark space wherein the Taskforce's watchful eye cannot see.
One shining light within these blackened spaces is the entity known commonly as <b>Sentry</b>, a being of incredible power who has worked for centuries to protect innocent civilizations and maintain peace.
But news spreads of Sentry's untimely demise, after being ambushed and slain on an unidentified planet. A galaxy mourns the loss of a hero, but Sentry was not without enemies. Swiftly, the source of Sentry's power--<b>The Artifact</b>--becomes priority number one, as many race to be the one to claim the nigh-omnipotent prize.

Two weeks after Sentry's death, a government vessel continues its journey from the Outer Shells to a KAT base in the <b>Alard System</b>. Aboard the ship, military personnel are tasked with transporting goods, assets, and government properties to the larger system.
The ship's <b>Security Officer</b> inspects the illuminated screen of his holo-tablet as he enters a corridor lined in gated cells. While most of the cells are empty, his task brings him to one of those few occupied with a prisoner being transported.
He taps on his screen a few times, barely casting a glance inside the cell as he begins to speak.

Finally, Security Officer Rrohyk taps a final time on his tablet and the illumination disperses, leaving only a thin clear tab behind which he slips into a pocket near his hip.
<<message "Security Officer Rrohyk" "media/unknown.png">>
That's everything. Get comfortable, we'll arrive in about six hours.<</message>>
With that, he leaves the same way he arrived, and the cellblock is once again quiet save the dull hum of artificial lighting and generators at work.
You step back from the perimeter of the cell, contemplating the reason you were even on this ship. You couldn't explain what was happening to you--to your body--just that it prompted the powers that be to ship you out of jail to some specialty hospital where they could probe your ass (or however they do thorough examinations these days) and slap a bill of health on your forehead before locking you up again.
Turning around, your attention falls on the small cell that is, for the next six hours, your home. There is a small cot on one side attached to the steely, bland walls. Against the opposite wall, a chrome cylinder extends outward with a circular ring that you can only assume is supposed to be a toilet. You'll definitely be holding it.
[[Sit on the cot|intro10sit]]You move over to the cot, taking a seat and leaning back against the cool metal wall. Settling back, you take a moment to do nothing but listen to the hum of machinery around you, and what sounds distantly like one of the other prisoners jerking off. It is at least as relaxing as your prison cell back home.
Soon, though, the ambient sounds of interstellar prisoner transport is disrupted by quiet, faint whispers. They feel almost like tickles at the back of your head; making your skin itch with heat. Everything goes white. Distantly, you feel your body hit the floor.
[[Continue|preattack]]Some part of your mind is able to recognize this as another <i>episode</i>, even as you lose all control of your body. He convulse on the cool floor, the whiteness around you feeling stifling. Those whispers continue, speaking over each other, just beyond comprehension.
A strong pressure builds in your chest, burning through your veins. You feel like you're being split apart from the inside, with only your flesh holding all of that viscera inside. It is maddening.
Then the white world goes perfectly quiet, and everything turns black.
[[Continue|attack]]<<set $encountered_npc = "Creature">>\
Slowly, the world returns to you as you regain consciousness. You aren't sure how long you were out, but as your eyes open and you feel your cheek numb against the cell floor, you hear something strange.
Nothing.
No hum of machinery. No cellmates jerking off. Your eyelids flutter as your hands, like overcooked noodles, struggle to stiffen at your sides and push you up. With a groan, you sit up and turn your head toward the illuminated blue barrier keeping you from stepping out of the cell. You freeze.
Despite the quiet, you are not alone. Just beyond your cell barrier, looms a figure as tall as it is broad; shoulders spanning nearly the length of your cell and limbs like tree trunks. It is unlike anyone, or anything, you've seen before. It is humanoid in shape, although far larger, with a head like some deep-sea predator ready to mascerate its prey between jagged, protruding teeth.
You don't know where it came from, or what it is, but it seems utterly focused on you. Surely it can't get through the barrier of your cell, you assure yourself. That, at least, will keep you safe.
Or maybe not. It's broad, clawed forelimbs raise up; tearing into the glimmering barrier and causing the blue light to immediately flicker with static. There is an audible hiss of heat searing bone, but the Creature appears unphased.
[[Call for help|attack2b]]
[[Wait|attack2]]You step back, willing the cell barrier to remain sturdy enough to keep that beast away from you. Unfortunately, the power alloted to the barrier seems finite, and cannot withstand the Creature's pressing claws for long. The flickering turns to jagged static, before the barrier fails completely.
Nothing else stands between you and the monstrosity looming before you, practically enveloping the entire doorway. The Creature takes a heavy step closer, affirming the reality that you'll have only a second to decide what happens next.
[[Try to run past the Creature|attack3]]
[[Hit it with something|attack3b]]There is not much space between the edge of the cell and the Creature, but you have to take the chance. Just as your attacker takes another step closer, you lunge to the side with all the speed and stamina your body can muster. The larger figure reacts quickly, raising a dangerous claw and swinging down toward you, but you narrowly evade it's swing as you slide forward and hit the hallway beyond hard on your belly.
The blow knocks the wind from you briefly, but you don't have time to recover. Your body moves of its own volition, arms pushing you up as your feet find purchase on solid ground.
You run.
You don't take time to notice if the other few prisoners are in their cells, focused solely on getting to the exit. A rumbling snarl echoes behind you, but you don't take the time to look back. You know well enough that its following you.
The doors ahead are marked in large letters:
!!!EMERGENCY EXIT: DO NOT ENTER
Shit. Wrong way. You don't have the option to turn around now. You just pray the doors will open for you. Your hands grab at the lever-rigged handle, twisting and hearing that reassuring click as it gives way. The doors slide open with a hydraulic hiss.
[[Hurry through the doors|attack4]]Running seems foolish, as there's barely any space between the edge of the cell and the Creature's broad figure. Instead, you look hastily around for anything you might use as a weapon. Spotting that cylindrical toilet, you lunge for it and grab at the base that feeds into the wall. You tug with all your might, feeling the structural integrity give, before mercifully tearing from its foundation with an audible crunch of metal. You stumble back with it, a bit of water splattering your shoes but you figure it's the least of your worries right now.
By that point, the Creature is practically upon you, turning to find a mere arms-reach between you. You swing blindly, the metal cylinder smashing into the beast's broad chest but seeming to do little more than aggravate it. Incidentally, the improvized toilet-weapon is now in pieces.
You run.
With the Creature further in the cell, there is just enough room for you to duck to the side and flee. You narrowly evade a swinging claw that attempts to stop you, springing into the corridor and making a break for it.
You don't take time to notice if the other few prisoners are in their cells, focused solely on getting to the exit. A rumbling snarl echoes behind you, but you don't take the time to look back. You know well enough that its following you.

...
...
...Slowly, the world reforms as consciousness returns to you.
Coming to, you feel angled on your back within the pod, which is now resting amid a mess of upturned rock, dirt, and fire. The pod itself is in bad shape; warped metal barely holding together. You carefully shift, groaning with effort as the flat of your palm presses into the cracked door and shoves it open with minimal effort.
You manage to pull yourself up, climbing onto the pod and taking in the sight around you. You've landed on a planet of lush forest, following a long line of destruction and upturned earth where your pod had landed and barreled into its final resting place. A plume of smoke roses from your crash site up into skies of amethyst and gold.
This planet is unfamiliar to you, but it's lucky you can breathe. You slide down the side of the pod to land on your feet, making your way out of the newly carved crater to solid ground beyond it. You still wonder how you managed to survive that crash, given the vessel had barely held together.
Peering down at your hands, your palms seem to radiate with some dim, subtle glimmer, as though something were ablaze beneath your skin. You aren't sure whether or not you're imagining things, but you don't have the chance to dwell on it long.
[[You hear a snarl behind you|crash2]]Somehow, you know what you are going to see even before you turn around, but you can't believe it. How could it have survived?
Sure enough, you cast your gaze over your shoulder. Only a few meters away, you see it. The Creature from the ship, rising from a heap of dirt and debris, once again seems to be focused solely on you.
You could try to run away, but where would you go that this thing couldn't chase you? The forest around you is thick and tangled with overgrowth; there's no way you'd be able to get far into it without being caught. A glint of steel near your foot draws your eye down, crouching to pick up a large, jagged piece of metal vaguely remaniscent of a blade that must have fallen off of the pod when you crashed. Well, better than nothing?
[[Looks like your only choice is to fight|fight]]
The Creature springs forth, its imposing stature looking entirely unimpeded by the devastating crash you both just endured. You briefly wonder if whatever kept <i>you</i> alive also protected this predator, but its rapid approach gives you little time to contemplate.
The ground shudders beneath each hammering footstep as your advesary closes in on you. You have little option more than clutching the jagged scrap of steel in your palm and hoping for the best. The creature leaps forward, poised like a lunging wildcat, bringing claws each the size of your measly makeshift weapon downward upon you.
You narrowly manage to fall backward, the sheer force of the Creature's body aiding you like a strong gust knocking into your chest. You land on your ass and quickly swing your arm forward with your metal spike sheering against the tough hide of one of those forelimbs. It barely connects with a sharp sound like metal striking metal.

Looking up, you see not eyes staring back at you, but a mouth full of drooling, jagged teeth large enough to swallow you whole.

Before you, what looks like a glass crescent hovers just in front of your raised palm, glimmering with the subtle sheen of stars and particles within the translucent barrier. Several raw teeth jut from its surface where your assailant attempted to bite, dripping blood.
Before you can comprehend what's going on, the Creature lets out a booming, resounding roar. Great, now it's pissed off. It shakes off the pain you'd <i>somehow</i> just inflicted, stampeding forward like a war horse intent on trampling the fight out of you.

You turn once more, met with the weathered features of an older man, staring down at you with steely eyes. He appears mostly human, but there is something off about him you cannot place. You open your mouth to speak, but find yourself at a loss.
He appears unphased, patting your shoulder and stepping forward to meet the pair he came with. They let up on their gunfire, letting the smoke clear as the broad silhouette of the Creature emerges once more, looking disheveled but largely unscathed. He lifts his palm, as a blue energy seems to ripple like static up his body from his feet right into his raised fingertips.
Mirroring the distance between his fingers, blue orbs sparking with lightning manifest hovering in midair above and around the Creature's looming figure. Licks of electricity spark between them, and as he suddenly closes his palm into a fist, those five orbs come crashing together to collide into the beast from all angles. The earth shakes beneath you, knocking you off your feet as the deafening blast blinds every one of your senses.
[[You black out|settlement dream]]<<set $encountered_npc = "Unknown">>\
<i>You are darkness. Nothing. Particles occupying endless space.
Admist the black, a solid white line forms, leading into the distance far beyond sight. There, your feet settle on a permeating heat, as though the white path were forged from smoldering fire. You feel yourself manifest, peering down at your hands that don't seem like your own. Something isn't right.
Whispers tug at your mind, lifting your gaze to a figure standing just too far away for you to make out any details. Somehow, you feel their eyes on you, beckoning you forward.
"Who are you?" You call, but there is no answer. Only an overwhelming, innate need to reach them.
You begin running forward, the white fire hissing under every step, the blackness surrounding you on either side. You run.
And run.
And run.
No matter how far you feel yourself moving, the figure is just as far away. Just as out of reach. You feel your heart swelling in your chest the longer it takes. Your legs and your lungs burn. You feel like you could collapse at any moment, but you can't stop.
Finally, your legs give out beneath you and you fall forward. You hit the white path beneath your feet and feel it shatter like glass, sending you plummeting into the swell of nothingness beneath.</i>
[[Wake up|settlement intro0]]You sit up abruptly, feeling nauseous and disoriented. You were dreaming, but it felt so real. You're sure you can still hear those whispers in the back of your mind, like a tickle of fingers just above skin. Now, you're in a bed.
Glancing up, you realize you're in an unfamiliar room. It is of fairly utilitarian design, nestled within some metallic structure. A rectangular window against one wall looks out into overgrown jungle green, a table set beneath with a few things stacked on top.
You slip out of bed, realizing you're wearing nothing but a pair of snug white underwear, but at the very least you feel clean. Had someone bathed you in your sleep?
Moving to the table, you see a note written on paper--how archaic--in universal script, next to a stack of neatly folded clothes.
<i> Please pardon your state of undress. We did not think it appropriate to leave you in that damaged uniform while you recovered. Hopefully the provided clothing fits.
- Warden </i>
You aren't sure what to make of that, but for now you put on the provided clothes and are pleasantly surprised to find they fit almost perfectly.
[[Leave the room|settlement intro1]]You head out of the room, the door sliding open and shut behind you as you find yourself in a much larger space. The ceilings are a bit higher, and it seems you're in some sort of partitioned ship that has been adapted into a home. There are multiple other doorways lining the oval walls, each leading presumably to other rooms, with various sofas, tables, and translucent cabinets dotting the space between. Two corridors, on either side of you, seem to open into similar spaces.
Windows span the curved walls between each doorway, looking out into more of the surrounding green flora that looks so much more inviting than the upturned crash site you'd first found yourself. You briefly admire the view; it's been years since you've been on an organic planet.

The slight scrunch of the man's brow has you realizing you just said that out loud. He gives a scant nod, stepping up beside you to follow your previous focus to the greenery outside. You mirror the act, and notice one of the others from the battle crouched amid the trees. They appear to be fiddling with a cylindrical device partially buried into the dirt. Some sort of pump? Thick tubes run from its base to the underside of the window you're looking out of, and you can only assume it's contributing energy to this vessel somehow.

You have inherited an incredible gift.<</message>>
He moves to a console near the center of the space, fingers tapping over the panel that promptly brings up a collection of illuminated information hovering in mid air. You recognize the holographic image of Sentry, that ridiculously powerful alien that served as heroic peacekeeper until recently. You remember hearing that they'd been killed, something no one thought was even possible. It didn't impact you all that strongly, to be honest. They dedicated their life to enforcing the moral good, and you made a living breaking the law.
<<message "Warden" "media/warden.png">>
You may have noticed the coincidence that your <i>health problems</i> began the moment Sentry was killed. Incidentally, you are also an orphan. Is that right?<</message>>
It takes you a moment to catch up with what you <i>think</i> he's inferring. You feel your insides start to bend in on themselves as your skin prickles with sweat. No, that's impossible. Noting your silently distressing state, Warden continues.
<<message "Warden" "media/warden.png">>
Sentry did not take many lovers in their lifetime, and to my knowledge fathered only two children. But they recognized the dangers that came with their prominence in the galaxy and a child had no place in any of that. However, there was also the understanding that they would not live forever, and wanted to ensure their power did not fall into the wrong hands.<</message>>
By now, your heart is beating so hard you think it might burst out of your chest. You swallow away the dryness on your tongue, suddenly craving a drink. A hard drink. Doubt is still the prominant feeling present in your mind, but there is also the insecurity stemming from a lifetime of abandonment issues and questions about your heritage creeping in. You try to think back on the limited information the orphanage had about your parents; they'd informed you only that your mother didn't have the means to care for you alone.
The older man wore an expression of sympathy, reaching to place a steadying hand on your shoulder. You're drawn from the shimmering hologram of Sentry back to the man beside you, finally mustering the power to speak.

You call out for help, hoping that a wandering Security Officer might hear and come to your aid. Surely security sensors must have detected this thing, right? Why did you suddenly feel totally alone?
Your attempts seemed fruitless. No one comes; there is no more commotion beyond your cell than a moment before. Just the looming, hulking figure in front of you.
You step back, willing the cell barrier to remain sturdy enough to keep that beast away from you.
[[Hit it with something|attack3b]]The room beyond is a semi-circle, lined in rows of spherical pods fastened into tunnel-like apparatus. It doesn't take long to recognize them as escape pods, realizing just how lucky you are that it isn't a janitor's closet. Now you just need to figure out how to make one of these work before the hungry sea monster eats you as a mid-flight snack.
Before that, you spin around, slamming your palm into the small tablet beside the door to prompt the emergency shut protocal. The doors slide shut behind you, sealing back in place just as you see that monstrosity barreling forth. It audibly collides with the metal doors a second later, making you flinch as the steel warps against its body. It isn't going to hold for long. You don't have much time.
The pods are all hooked up to a single control console, but its been a while since you last navigated tech like this. You hastily canvas the controls, not entirely sure what you're doing. The pod before you gives an audible hiss as the front of the sphere slides open, revealing a cushioned interior designed to hold a single passenger. A few more taps, and you think you've managed to program its immediate departure. A countdown appears, reaffirming your hopes.
<b>5 ... 4 ... 3 ...</b>
You rush to throw yourself into the presented pod, spinning around to settle into the seat-like interior and tap at the small panel before your right hand to shut the pod door. Meanwhile, the door to the room warps further against a slamming fist, before humungous claws sheer through the metal like wet paper.
<b> ... 2 ... 1 ... </b>
The pod gives an abrupt jerk around you, as something behind you opens and you feel your tiny vessel being propelled backwards. You're pulled through a long, dark tube like a vacuum that a second later has your tiny escape pod blasting out into open space.
You aren't even given a chance at relief before you feel something heavy and <i>big</i> collide with your pod, jostling your entire body around as it's sent askew of its trajectory. The Creature clings to the front of your pod, leaving you with no option but to stare up at it through the sturdy exterior of your vessel.
Panic sets in, looking to the small control panel in hopes of <i>something</i> you can do, but find nothing. You are at gravity's mercy, as your pod begins to descend toward the atmosphere of the nearest planet. You can see the distortion of heat around you, enough that the Creature seems to be struggling to hold onto the sphere. It's all happening so fast, you can barely process any of it. Are you going to crash? Burn up into nothing?
The air within the pod is growing thin, while the rocky atmosphere entry has the tiny vessel jostling about painfully. You can't hold out any longer.

Turning again, you manage to make out the outline of the settlement ahead, and quickly make your way back home.

Existence is now her kingdom, and any who might oppose her are swiftly made example of.
You do not question your new reality. You live out the rest of your life in a blur of sex, violence, and worship.

You extend a hand to the fallen priest, drawing his gaze up to you with obvious confusion. When you offer him a place at the settlement, that confusion turns to shock.

You step through the automated doors and down a shallow few steps onto natural ground. It's surreal, being on a planet with real dirt, real grass. Glancing up and around you, the little settlement is nestled in a small clearing surrounded by thick forest. Overhead, the skies are painted in a hypnotising gradient of amethyst and gold; like paints spilling into each other.
The air is fresh and you find yourself inhaling deep, soothing breaths that leave you a little bit dizzy--you're far too used to artificial atmosphere.
Nearby, you hear the clink of metal and machinery, where a hooded figure is hunched over a rumbling pump, hammering away at it in frustration.
A trail leads from the settlement into the shallow woods, and you barely make out Warden's silhouette lingering out there.
